Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike is awake and talking after surviving two doses of a lethal injection drug during a botched execution attempt last Wednesday, her attorneys announced Tuesday.
Pike remains hospitalized with severe arm injuries, according to The Associated Press. Her attorneys stated that her prognosis remains unclear and that they anticipate a lengthy recovery period.
"Her recovery is medically unprecedented," her legal team said, adding that Pike is currently handcuffed and shackled to her hospital bed.
The statement marks the first indication of Pike's improvement since an ambulance transported her from a Nashville prison. She survived two doses of pentobarbital during the execution attempt.
