Two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after a car they were in crashed into a South Carolina home on October 15. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the reported stolen vehicle around 2:30 p.m. The driver fled from deputies, who stated they did not pursue the car before it left the roadway, traveled through yards, and collided with a house on Renwood Road in Simpsonville.
Video footage released by the sheriff's office captured the moment the car struck the home. Authorities were seen approaching the wreckage and pursuing a suspect on foot. A second suspect, the passenger, was apprehended quickly. The search for the driver involved K9 units and a drone.
"When someone decides to run from law enforcement in Greenville County, they quickly learn that our deputies have more than one way to find them," the sheriff's office stated in a social media post accompanying the video. "You can run, but our deputies have a pretty impressive toolbox. And they know how to use it."
Neighbors reported hearing the crash. One resident, Rachel Bush, told WYFF that she was putting her baby down for a nap when the collision occurred. She noted her family was inside their home moments before, having recently returned from being outdoors.
A resident of the home that was struck told WYFF that no one was home at the time of the crash. He and his fiancé returned from an errand to discover the damage. The car reportedly missed another vehicle in the garage by inches.
Another neighbor, Robert Belcher, expressed relief that no one was harmed, recalling telling the homeowner, "I don’t know what to say to you but thank God no one was at home."
