An 18-year-old is being lauded as a hero after he intervened to stop a car that began rolling unattended, narrowly avoiding a collision with parked vehicles. The incident occurred on July 21, 2026, at the Highland Farm Cafe in Dingwall, Scotland.
Euan Lonnen was working at the cafe when he noticed a red hatchback moving forward with two passengers in the back seat and no one in the driver's seat. CCTV footage captured Lonnen immediately sprinting across the car park to intercept the vehicle. He first attempted to steer the car, but found the steering wheel locked because the engine had been turned off and the keys removed. Lonnen then entered the driver's seat and pulled the handbrake.
The car, which had begun to skid, came to a stop mere inches from a row of parked cars. Lonnen stated that the situation was "very, very close," and that everyone involved was shaken. Thanks to his quick actions, the passengers escaped unharmed, and the car sustained no damage.
Kenny and Lesley, the owners of the Highland Farm Cafe, shared the footage on social media, leading to widespread praise for Lonnen's bravery. Owner Kenneth noted that Lonnen is always attentive to customer well-being, adding that "The two elderly passengers hadn't even got their seat belts on so his actions really did save the day!"
Online commenters and Lonnen's grandmother also expressed their pride and admiration for his quick thinking and decisive action.
