Teenager Fighting for Life After Drive-By Shooting Outside Queensland Pub
A 19-year-old woman was shot in the face and three men were wounded in a drive-by attack outside a venue hosting a boxing event, with children among those who witnessed the terrifying incident.
A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the face during a drive-by shooting outside a packed pub in Loganholme, south of Brisbane, on Saturday evening. The attack, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m., also left three men with injuries, and two gunmen remain at large.
The shooting took place outside Fitzys Loganholme Pub, which was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night. The venue was filled with families attending the event. Footage from inside the pub shows panicked spectators, including young children, taking cover beneath a boxing ring as shots were fired.
According to police, at least six bullets were fired from the front passenger window of a Mitsubishi vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned and set on fire. The three men injured in the incident, aged 27, 37, and 38, remain in hospital in serious but stable conditions after undergoing surgery for abdominal wounds.
Detective Inspector Galpin stated that establishing a motive is a priority, and there appears to be a level of pre-planning involved in the attack. He confirmed that the 19-year-old woman was not the intended target of the shooting. Logan mayor Jon Raven noted that the young woman was preparing for her bout and was inside the venue, away from the incident.
Damien Smith, coach for the Deception Bay Boxing Club, whose fighters were participating in the event, expressed his belief that the boxing match was not the target of the shooting. He explained that the fights were held at the back of the building, while the incident occurred at the front, and that many inside were unaware of the shooting until later.
Fighter Talia Louise Preston, who was present at the event, shared on social media that the incident was devastating and offered prayers for the injured. She reportedly witnessed the 19-year-old being shot and initially feared the worst.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation.
