Teenager Fatally Shot in Queens Amid Suspected Scooter Robbery

A 14-year-old boy died Monday afternoon after sustaining a gunshot wound to the back in Queens, New York, in what police and sources are characterizing as a potential scooter robbery gone awry. The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. near 51-24 Beach Channel Drive in the Edgemere neighborhood.
Emergency medical services transported the teenager to Long Island Jewish Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to official reports. The New York Police Department responded to the scene.
Sources familiar with the investigation suggest the suspect may have opened fire during the commission of the robbery, potentially targeting a scooter. The assailant was last seen fleeing eastbound on a two-wheeled vehicle along Beach 51st Street. At the time of the escape, the suspect was described as wearing a black sweater and white shorts.
As of Monday night, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
