A 17-year-old boy was killed and a man injured in a shooting Wednesday evening inside a business in Brooklyn's East New York neighborhood. The victim, identified as Ahmir Jordan, was shot in the head around 8:20 p.m. on New Lots Avenue.
Emergency medical services transported Jordan to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the New York Police Department. A 35-year-old man sustained a graze wound to his right arm and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Loved ones gathered near the scene following the shooting, playing gospel music late into Wednesday night. A neighbor who has lived in the area for 12 years described the incident as heartbreaking.
“No mother should have to bury their child. Especially 17 years old,” the neighbor, who declined to give her name, told The Post. “That is heartbreaking. And that’s from one mother to another.”
An employee at a homeless shelter across the street reported hearing gunshots from inside the building. The worker stated that after hearing the shots, he and others ducked before going outside to investigate and observing two young men, appearing to be teenagers, running down New Lots Avenue.
As of Wednesday night, no arrests had been made, and the investigation by the NYPD is ongoing.
