Teenager Falls to Her Death From Carnival Ride in Mexico
An 18-year-old died after falling from 'The Pendulum' ride in Cabo San Lucas, a tragedy that echoes a recent similar incident in the United States.
An 18-year-old died Tuesday after falling from a carnival ride in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Gabriela Rodriguez Tezoco was riding 'The Pendulum' attraction when she fell out of her seat as the ride reached top speed.
Video footage captured the moment Tezoco's harness appeared to lift, causing her to slip out of the seat and fall to the ground. Bystanders rushed to her aid after she fell. Tezoco was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The ride was immediately closed for safety testing, and other attractions at the festival will also undergo scrutiny, according to local reports. An investigation has been launched to determine liability.
Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agundez offered support to Tezoco's family, stating, "it could have been any one of us."
Tezoco had recently graduated from the Baja California Sur College of Baccalaureate Studies. Her school posted a message mourning her loss, saying, "May your smile remain alive in our memory and may your memory always be a light that guides us."
This incident occurs just weeks after Hassan Kariem, 42, died in a similar incident at Six Flags in Georgia, United States. Kariem fell from the Goliath rollercoaster while riding with his son. Witnesses reported that he fell from his seat and struck the ride's metal structure multiple times before hitting the ground. The incident occurred as the rollercoaster's camera was taking souvenir photos of riders.
