A teenager is facing a string of charges after allegedly striking a woman with a stolen car while driving erratically through Melbourne's city center on Sunday. The incident occurred near the Melbourne Marathon, which was underway with thousands of participants.
Police reported that a 16-year-old boy was driving along tram tracks on Flinders Street around 10:45 a.m. when he allegedly struck a 57-year-old woman. The woman, who was standing at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street, was transported to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
According to authorities, the teen allegedly made a U-turn outside Flinders Street Station, prompting patrolling police and protective services officers to draw their firearms. The vehicle then proceeded along Flinders Lane, where it is accused of striking several parked, unoccupied cars.
