A 19-year-old man died Saturday morning after he fell onto the electrified third rail of the subway tracks at the Forest Hills MBTA Station in Boston while attempting to rescue his girlfriend.
Frankey Wright Jr. was electrocuted after touching the live third rail, according to MBTA Transit Police. The incident occurred as Wright Jr. and his girlfriend were leaving the station after celebrating Boston's 53rd annual Caribbean Festival. The pair were carrying flags representing Caribbean countries.
The woman reportedly lost her balance and fell onto the platform near the warning strip. Wright Jr. attempted to help her back up, but she fell again. During his second attempt to assist her, Wright Jr. fell onto the tracks and onto the electrified third rail.
The woman sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital. Transit Police stated that foul play is not suspected and described the event as a "horrific tragedy."
Wright Jr.'s family has launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and honor his life. The online fundraiser describes him as "a noble boy with a big heart, someone who put others before himself even in his final moments."
