Teenager Arrested in Florida Shooting That Injured 12
Police have charged a 15-year-old with multiple counts of attempted murder following a shooting near a Tallahassee football stadium.
Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a shooting that injured 12 people, including children, in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. local time near an American football stadium where a university game had recently concluded.
Authorities have charged Anthony Rivers III, 15, with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. According to police, 11 individuals sustained gunshot wounds, and one other person was injured while fleeing the scene. Six of the victims were children.
Officials stated that the shooting followed an altercation between individuals who knew each other and that additional arrests may be forthcoming. Police also indicated that none of the victims appeared to have been the intended targets of the violence.
"What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families," Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said in a statement. "We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy."
As of Sunday, six people remained hospitalized, with one in critical condition. Five individuals had been released from the hospital. Revell noted during a press conference on Sunday that the density of the crowd from the football game made it difficult for first responders to reach victims, with officers at times having to carry injured individuals to emergency personnel.
