Amélia Jones, 14, collapsed at Grampound Road Cricket Club near St Austell last Thursday evening. She was transported to a hospital via air ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Her uncle, Sean Jones, established a fundraiser to support his niece's family, which has since surpassed £19,000. He described Amélia as a "deeply loved daughter, sister, friend, and the cherished twin" to her sister, noting she had a "beautiful smile and brought so much happiness to the people around her."
Amélia was an avid sports enthusiast, participating in netball and cricket. In the week preceding her death, she captained Cornwall's under-14s girls cricket team against Glamorgan. She was also academically gifted, studying for her Grade 8 piano and Grade 5 clarinet exams, and was being supported by her school to pursue additional GCSEs.
"Her passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of everyone who knew and loved her," her uncle stated, adding that she would be "forever loved" and "forever remembered."
Amélia's organs were donated to aid other families. The funds raised will initially assist her family, with any surplus to be donated to a charity.
Emergency services were alerted to the Grampound Road Cricket Club following reports of a young girl collapsing. A spokesperson for the club described the event as "tragic," indicating that Amélia's death is believed to be a medical incident unrelated to the sport.
"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her at this unimaginably difficult time," said club chair Lewis Sanders. He requested that the family's privacy be respected.
The club also expressed gratitude to those who responded to the incident, including individuals who provided immediate first aid and the emergency services, such as the Cornwall Air Ambulance.
