A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after she fell while subway surfing on top of a southbound A train in Queens.

The incident occurred around 3:12 p.m. as the train approached the Broad Channel station. The girl struck an overhead beam while riding on the roof of the train, according to police and law enforcement sources. Video shared on social media shows the teen lying motionless on the train's roof before firefighters carefully removed her. Passengers on the platform observed the rescue as NYPD officers worked to manage the scene.

The girl was conscious and alert at the time of her rescue. She was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she was treated for a broken femur and remains in stable condition.

Subway surfing has been a persistent issue in the New York City subway system. In May, the NYPD reported that officers had apprehended at least 60 repeat offenders, some as young as 10 years old, since initiating a crackdown five years prior. This dangerous activity continues to pose a significant risk to riders and the public.
