An 18-year-old British man is accused of inciting racial hatred and distributing terrorist content, including a video of the 2019 Christchurch mosque massacre, a court heard.
Damian Woolfenden, of Bury in Greater Manchester, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link on Friday. He faces seven charges, including two counts of transmitting the contents of a terrorist publication, one count of possessing documents useful for committing terrorism, and four counts of publishing threatening written material.
Prosecutors allege Woolfenden posted a video of the Christchurch attack, where white supremacist Brenton Tarrant killed over 50 people, on a platform called White-Pilled TV. The court was told this post garnered 91,000 views and trended on the site, which describes itself as a "free-speech pro-white platform."
He is also accused of sharing the manifesto of Norwegian neo-Nazi Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people in 2011, on the messaging app Telegram. Additionally, authorities allege he possessed copies of manifestos from US white supremacist Payton Gendron and German neo-Nazi Stephan Balliet, along with a firearms guide, on a home computer.
Woolfenden allegedly made anti-Semitic remarks on his X account, referring to "communist Zionist scum Jews." He is also accused of targeting foreign people and distributing terrorist documents.
His case came to police attention approximately one year ago due to activity on his Telegram account, where he reportedly offered advice on joining far-right groups like National Action and the National Front, and stated he had distributed "White Lives Matter" flyers.
Woolfenden indicated no plea to the charges. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey next month. If convicted, he faces a potential prison sentence of several years.
