A 16-year-old suspect wanted in the shooting death of Penn State student Billy Schmidt was apprehended in Colorado Springs, ending a nearly month-long manhunt. The U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force arrested Azzubair Outen-Fleming on Wednesday at a relative's home, according to a statement from the U.S. Marshals Philadelphia branch. Outen-Fleming had attempted to deny his identity upon capture.

Outen-Fleming, along with another 16-year-old, Kaiseem Smith, is accused of ambushing and fatally shooting Schmidt, 20, in South Philadelphia on June 6. Authorities allege the incident began when Outen-Fleming and Smith approached Schmidt as he was walking home from an NBA Finals watch party. Surveillance footage reportedly shows one of the suspects grabbing Schmidt's phone before punching him and searching his pockets. The suspects are then seen pushing Schmidt to the ground.

Schmidt pursued the suspects to retrieve his phone. During this pursuit, Smith allegedly produced a handgun and fired a fatal shot, striking Schmidt in the chest. Both suspects then fled the scene in an SUV. Schmidt was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Outen-Fleming faces charges including murder, robbery, and conspiracy to murder. He is currently being held at the Zebulon Pike Youth Center awaiting extradition to Philadelphia.

Hours before Outen-Fleming's arrest, his stepfather, Donte Abdulmalik, 35, was taken into custody. Abdulmalik is charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice, and tampering with evidence for allegedly assisting Outen-Fleming in fleeing Philadelphia to Colorado.

Kaiseem Smith remains at large. U.S. Marshals have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Smith is described as 4-foot-10. A U.S. Marshals image shows the suspect Kaiseem Smith, who remains at large.

Schmidt, who had completed his third year at Penn State University studying digital journalism and media, was remembered by his family as a kind individual. His father, Bill Schmidt, expressed a desire for justice for his son, stating, "I want to find the two people and make them pay."
