A teenager was rescued by helicopter after falling from Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, an incident captured on video and shared on social media. The fall happened just days after a 17-year-old was hospitalized for injuries sustained in a similar jump at the same site.

The latest footage shows an unidentified teen scaling the sandstone bluff before losing their footing, striking a ledge, and plunging into the Pacific Ocean. San Diego lifeguards responded to the scene, with a rescue helicopter, an airlift gear, and an ocean-safety jet ski assisting in the recovery. Rescuers secured the teen to a stretcher and used a hoist system to bring them back up the cliff. The teen's identity, condition, and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known.

The earlier incident involved a 17-year-old who attempted to leap over rocks near the cliffs but instead violently collided with a rocky ledge before falling into the water. San Diego lifeguards rescued that individual, who was subsequently taken to a hospital with a leg injury. San Diego Fire-Rescue Lt. Charlie Knight described the earlier incident, stating the individual was fortunate to have only sustained a leg injury, noting that severe outcomes like paralysis or death were possible.

Jumping from these cliffs is prohibited by city ordinance, which forbids jumping or diving into the Pacific Ocean or Mission Bay from any land more than five feet above the water. Candace Hadley, a spokesperson for San Diego Fire-Rescue, urged the public to observe safety precautions, including staying away from cliff edges and heeding posted warnings.

The picturesque Sunset Cliffs have become a known spot for thrill-seekers, with some attributing the risky behavior to social media trends focused on performing stunts for online attention. The dangers associated with these cliffs are not new; a 15-year-old died after jumping from the cliffs in 2019.
