Teen Identified as 'Beautiful, Caring, Loving Boy' After School Leap
Family mourns the loss of Xavier Nungarary, 17, who died after allegedly being bullied at Franklin High School.

The 17-year-old high school student who died after jumping from the fourth floor of Franklin High School in Los Angeles has been identified as Xavier Nungarary, described by his family as a “beautiful, caring, and loving boy.”
Nungarary’s family released photos of the teen and is seeking funds for funeral expenses. "Losing a child is an unimaginable pain, and this family is now facing the emotional weight of grief while also trying to make arrangements to honor his life," reads a GoFundMe created by the family. "Lilia shared that their son was a beautiful, caring, and loving boy who meant so much to the people around him. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him."
Video footage circulated showing Nungarary being physically assaulted by another student in a classroom shortly before he ran out and jumped from the fourth-floor railing. His stepmother told CBS LA that other students had bullied Nungarary throughout high school and that he was "hesitant to speak up."
"He was scared that he was gonna end up getting punished instead of the bullies," she said.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that there is no evidence of foul play but confirmed awareness of the videos depicting an altercation prior to the incident. Officials found Nungarary at the scene and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Students returned to classes on Thursday. The school district has offered mental health support to students, many of whom witnessed the event. Some parents have expressed criticism regarding the school’s decision to reopen so soon after the tragedy, with one parent telling KTLA, “The district needs to be held accountable. The school should have been closed today.”
Another parent added, “They should have respected that one person — human, child, someone’s child.”
