Teen Girl Critically Injured in Drive-By Shooting Attended Event Family Previously Targeted
The family of Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau, who was shot in the face at a boxing event, had three cars vandalized with slashed tires in a previous incident.
A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the face during a drive-by shooting outside a boxing event in Loganholme, south of Brisbane, on Saturday night. Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau was among four people injured when two masked individuals opened fire from a silver Mitsubishi ASX at the Logan City Titles boxing event.
The vehicle used in the attack was later discovered burned out in Waterford West, and police believe the perpetrators fled in another vehicle. Investigators suspect at least three individuals were involved.
Details have emerged that Ms. Schuster-Togiatau's family was the target of a prior incident approximately a year ago. In April 2025, an intruder slashed the tires of three cars belonging to the family. The attack was carried out stealthily, with the vandal targeting vehicles parked out of view of the family's security cameras.
Ms. Schuster-Togiatau's sister, Kayla Togiatau, posted on a neighborhood Facebook group at the time, seeking information and reporting that six tires had been damaged. She described the act as looking like someone had "stabbed each tyre with a knife."
Police stated on Sunday that they do not believe Ms. Schuster-Togiatau was the intended target of Saturday's shooting, describing her as an "innocent bystander." The investigation into the drive-by shooting is ongoing, with Queensland Police's Taskforce Maxima, which focuses on outlaw motorcycle gangs and organized crime, now assisting local detectives.
Despite police inquiries, boxing official Phil Austin dismissed speculation that the shooting was linked to organized crime or bikie activity, suggesting such claims were unfounded.
Ms. Schuster-Togiatau had posted a video on social media singing with her boyfriend just hours before the incident.
