A 19-year-old man was found dead Tuesday morning inside his Staten Island home with suspicious injuries and signs of possible malnourishment, prompting investigators to treat the case as a suspected homicide, according to sources.
Police responded to a call reporting an unconscious person at a New Springville residence on Elmwood Park Drive at approximately 11:10 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the teen unresponsive in the living room. The New York City Police Department declared the individual dead at the scene.
Sources familiar with the investigation described the victim's body as cold, with protruding ribs. Additional findings included swelling and bruising around the wrists and ankles, consistent with malnourishment. The teen's mother, who made the 911 call, reportedly provided a narrative to first responders that sources indicated was inconsistent with the physical evidence found at the residence.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 19-year-old's death is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
