A Fourth of July boating excursion on Mississippi's Horn Island concluded tragically with the death of college football player Nolan Xavier Wells.
Wells, a college student, was part of a group of friends who traveled by boat to Horn Island, a popular destination approximately 10 miles off the Mississippi Gulf Coast, to celebrate the holiday. Authorities stated that Wells was last seen around 3 p.m. on the north end of the island in conversation with an unidentified girl. His disappearance was reported on the same day.
Details regarding the circumstances leading to his disappearance or death remain unclear. The Jackson County Sheriff’s office is handling the investigation.
