A teenage girl escaped a kidnapping and assault by fighting back against her alleged captor with a fire extinguisher, according to charging documents.
Abubakarr Barrie, 23, is accused of kidnapping the 15-year-old girl on Thursday after she accepted a ride from him outside her sister's home. The girl told investigators that she asked Barrie to drop her off at a restaurant, but he drove in the wrong direction.
When the girl pointed out the incorrect route, Barrie allegedly became violent, placing her in a headlock. He then took her to his basement, where he instructed her not to scream.
Charging documents state that Barrie then assaulted the girl, stripping her clothes and stabbing her. The teen fought back, striking Barrie with a fire extinguisher before fleeing the residence.
She ran out of the house and sought help from a neighbor, who allowed her to use a phone to call emergency services and her mother. The girl was treated at a local hospital for five stab wounds and a collapsed lung.
Barrie was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault. He was denied bond at a hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on November 25.
