Teen Cyclist Killed in NYC Sanitation Truck Collision
A 15-year-old girl died and her friend was injured when a sanitation truck struck them in Manhattan's East Village.

A teenage girl was killed and her friend injured Friday night when a private sanitation truck collided with them as they rode a Citi Bike through a crowded New York City neighborhood.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 14th Street and First Avenue in Manhattan's East Village, an area known for its nightlife.
The unidentified 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene after being pinned beneath the Badger garbage truck. Emergency responders attempted CPR for an extended period but were unsuccessful.
Her 13-year-old friend, who was riding with her on the Citi Bike, sustained severe injuries to her leg and pelvis. Bystanders reported that she was transported to Bellevue Hospital.
Images from the scene showed a significant emergency response, with multiple ambulances and law enforcement personnel present. Police cordoned off the privately owned sanitation truck, and the mangled remains of a blue Citi Bike were visible underneath one of its wheels.
The truck was reportedly making a right turn when the collision occurred. The exact circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation.
