A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder and attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his mother to death and critically injuring his father during a dispute over discipline at their Alabama home. The incident occurred Sunday night at the family's residence in Daphne, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

Prosecutors said the teen attacked his mother, Samantha Baker, 37, and his father, Lance, 46, inside their home. The couple then fled to separate neighbors' houses. The 17-year-old, whose name has been withheld due to his age, followed them outside and continued the attack. Lance Baker was heard screaming for help as he sought refuge, a neighbor told WALA.

Following the stabbings, the teen allegedly locked himself inside the home and called 911, reporting that he had argued with his parents and believed he had stabbed one of them. He informed dispatchers he was unsure of the other parent's condition.

Deputies arriving at the scene found Samantha Baker outside the residence with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Lance Baker was life-flighted to a nearby hospital and, as of Monday, remained in critical condition. Capt. Justin Correa of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office stated that Lance was "hopefully going to survive."

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged as an adult. He appeared in court for a bond hearing on Monday, where his bond was set at $1 million. Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney Patrick Doggett described the incident as an "isolated domestic incident that really just got out of control" and stated his belief that the teen is a "danger to himself and the public at this point."

Samantha and Lance Baker met while serving in the Army and had two sons. The family, originally from Mississippi, relocated to Daphne in 2016. Samantha Baker was a realtor and had served in the Army National Guard for six years. Lance Baker has served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over 26 years and holds the rank of Battalion Commander. They married in October 2012.

Lance, with his wife, survived the attack, but suffered serious injuries. He was life-flighted to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition
