Teen Boxer Critically Ill After Brain Bleed Post-Fight

A 15-year-old boxer is in critical condition in the hospital after suffering a severe brain bleed shortly after winning a match on September 11. Dexter Mole collapsed minutes after his victory at Ashton Masonic Hall in Ashton-under-Lyne.

He displayed immediate signs of a brain bleed and was rapidly transported to a hospital, where he underwent two hours of emergency surgery. Mole was placed on a ventilator in intensive care and remains unconscious, though he is now showing positive signs, breathing independently and responding to his family's voices. The long-term effects of his injury are currently unknown.

Mole, who last year secured the North West Champion title in his age category, fights for Magic Hatton Amateur Boxing Club. His brother, Morgan Mole, 28, is raising funds for Ronald McDonald House, a charity that provides accommodation for families of children in hospital, to support his parents who have been staying close to Dexter.

There were no apparent concerns regarding the match itself or the blows exchanged during the bout, which Dexter won. As is standard procedure, he was assessed by an on-site doctor following the fight. Shortly after, he fell to the floor, exhibiting symptoms indicative of a serious brain bleed.

Paramedics arrived within minutes of being called by venue officials, and Dexter was rushed to a nearby hospital. His brother stated that doctors are uncertain if the injury resulted from an accumulation of factors or an underlying issue. "It's come as a total shock, there's been nothing like this before," Morgan Mole told the Daily Mail. "The likelihood of him boxing ever again is very, very slim."

Morgan Mole is scheduled to run the Manchester Half Marathon on October 4, channeling his training efforts into fundraising for Ronald McDonald House after witnessing its support for his family during this difficult time. He expressed determination to complete the race, running for his brother, the charity, and the donors.

England Boxing was contacted by the Daily Mail for comment regarding any ongoing investigation into the incident but had not yet responded at the time of reporting. Dexter Mole is described as a sporty individual who also participates in football, running, and gym activities, with no prior history of injuries.
