Teen Arrested for Alleged Plot to Shoot Up California High School

An 18-year-old identified as Carlos Barajas Ramirez has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a shooting at Hollister High School in California. He was taken into custody at his home in Hollister and booked into the San Benito County Jail on suspicion of publishing threats to commit a school shooting.

The Hollister Police Department stated that the investigation began on September 27 when the Northern California Regional Intelligence Centre alerted them to reports of an individual attempting to purchase a firearm and planning an attack on the school. Collaborating with the FBI, detectives followed a digital trail, discovering that the suspect had shared operational plans and “radical ideation” with others online.

Witness interviews conducted by investigators revealed messages detailing the alleged plot. Account metadata was then used to identify Barajas Ramirez and his location. Detectives and officers visited Ramirez's home on October 13, where an investigation led to his arrest.

Authorities have not confirmed whether Ramirez had obtained a firearm before his arrest or if he had direct ties to the school. The police department worked closely with school administrators throughout the investigation to prevent alerting the suspect and ensure community safety. Dr. Shawn Tennenbaum, superintendent of the San Benito High School District, commended the police for their swift action, stating that law enforcement's guidance was “instrumental to ensuring a safe environment for all.” Officials have confirmed that there is no current danger to students or staff.
