Sarah Grace Patrick, who was 16 when she allegedly shot her mother and stepfather to death, will face a jury trial on Monday as planned, relatives told WXIA-TV. Judge Dustin Hightower rejected an attempt by Patrick's attorney, Shawn Hoover, to postpone the proceedings earlier this month.

Hoover, who recently took over Patrick's defense, had argued that "more needs to be done so I can adequately protect Ms. Patrick's interests moving forward," citing "certain issues" with the case. He told the judge on July 13 that the defense had begun to receive "more information, more evidence from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) and from law enforcement." Hoover disclaimed that these issues did not stem from the District Attorney's office "hiding information" and suggested they related to forensic evidence and an oversight by Patrick's former attorney.

Patrick, now 18, faces two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two weapons charges. Prosecutors accuse her of shooting her mother, Kristin Brock, 41, and her stepfather, James Brock, 45, while they slept in their Georgia home on February 20, 2025. The teen was arrested on July 8, 2025, nearly six months after the murders. According to court documents, Patrick was the one who called 911 after her then-five-year-old stepsister discovered the bodies.

Following the deaths, Patrick posted tearful videos on TikTok mourning her parents and offered a eulogy at their funeral. Investigators had gathered a substantial amount of digital and physical evidence during the months following the incident, prosecutors stated during pretrial hearings. Patrick turned herself in after officers obtained an arrest warrant. She is being tried as an adult and was denied bail in August 2025 due to the severity of the charges. If convicted, she faces a potential life sentence.

Prosecutors maintain that all evidence and records have been turned over to the defense.
