Ted Shackelford, the actor recognized for his portrayal of Gary Ewing, the 'black sheep' of the oil family on both "Dallas" and its spin-off "Knots Landing," was recently spotted during a rare public outing in Los Angeles.
Shackelford, 80, was seen on Thursday utilizing a stroller for support. He was dressed in a blue sweater, a matching polo shirt, black trousers, and trainers.
Shackelford's acting career spans several decades, beginning with a role in the 1975 series "Go." He subsequently appeared in shows like "Wonder Woman," "Hotel," and "Big Hawaii." His most prominent role, Gary Ewing, began in 1979 and continued for many years.
He reprised the character of Gary Ewing for the 2013 reboot of "Dallas." In a 2013 interview with Dallas Decoder, Shackelford commented on returning to the role, stating, "There’s no magic here, man. I just learned the lines and showed up on time. It wasn’t that hard. It came back pretty fast."
Despite embodying the character for so long, Shackelford admitted he did not particularly like Gary Ewing, describing him as "weak" and lacking "strength of character." He also noted that over the extensive run of the show, the character eventually "mellowed out" due to a lack of new storylines.
In addition to his iconic soap opera roles, Shackelford was also a regular on "The Young & The Restless" and made an appearance in a 2017 episode of "NCIS."
