Senator Ted Cruz was compelled to delete a social media tribute to country music legend Dolly Parton after an unintended social media interaction. The Texas senator had posted on X, formerly Twitter, to honor Parton, who recently passed away at the age of 80.

Cruz shared a clip of Parton from a 1979 appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," accompanied by the caption "Legend" and several emojis. However, the original poster of the clip subsequently altered their display name to include a derogatory phrase targeting Cruz. This user then replied to Cruz's retweet, referencing past political disagreements and Donald Trump's comments about Cruz's wife.

Following this exchange, Cruz removed his post. The user reportedly reverted their display name to its original form. Nevertheless, social media users had already observed the incident, leading to widespread commentary and speculation online.

Many observers pointed out the sequence of events, suggesting a deliberate tactic by the original poster to highlight the senator's misstep. Some users questioned whether Cruz had noticed the offensive username before retweeting the post. Cruz's office has not yet issued a public comment on the matter.

Dolly Parton's passing was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who shared a video tribute. Seaver spoke of his aunt's "light" and her current state, referencing her reunion with family in the afterlife. Parton died after being admitted to Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville due to autoimmune and kidney issues. Known as the "Queen of Country," Parton had a career spanning six decades, with notable hits including "Jolene" and "Nine to Five."
