Tech Worker Arrested for Texting Customer's Explicit Video
A GFiber installer is accused of sending a sexually explicit video from a customer's phone to his own number during an installation in Irvine, California.
An Irvine, California, woman's home internet installation became a privacy violation when a technician allegedly sent a private video from her phone to himself. Edward Gray-McCannon, 37, was arrested on September 11 at his Hemet home.
Gray-McCannon faces charges including commercial burglary, unauthorized computer access, and distributing private sexual images without consent. He is currently being held at the Orange County Jail.
Authorities stated that Gray-McCannon, a contractor for ITC Service Group Acquisition working for GFiber (formerly Google Fiber), was at the victim's Irvine residence in August to set up her internet service. After completing the installation, he requested the customer's phone to perform connectivity tests. He was out of her sight with the device for approximately 15 minutes.
During this time, Gray-McCannon allegedly discovered a sexually explicit video on the woman's phone, which she had previously sent to her partner. He is accused of forwarding this video to his own phone number via iMessage and subsequently deleting the outgoing message from the woman's phone history to conceal his actions.
Weeks later, the victim discovered the deleted text message in her synced message log on her linked iPad. She identified the phone number as belonging to the technician and filed a police report on September 9.
Law enforcement officials expressed concern that Gray-McCannon might have targeted other customers and urged anyone with pertinent information to contact Detective Sanders at [email protected].
