Tech Executive Enlists Parents to Vet Dating App Matches

San Francisco tech executive Autumn-Kyoto Cushman, 30, has taken to social media platform X to detail her dating journey, a process that notably includes her parents in vetting potential partners. This comes weeks after another California tech executive, Brooke Leblanc, sparked public discussion with her extensive list of demands for a partner.

Cushman shared a screenshot of the dating app Hinge, which showed over 577 notifications. In one post, she wrote, "Made a hinge at age 30 and let my parents pick potential suitors." She also posted a photo of herself with her father, appearing to review her matches together.

Pushing back against the idea of stringent or perhaps unrealistic partner criteria, Cushman shared a screenshot of her parents' humorous commentary on her own dating preferences. Her father quipped, "Post economic? Is that a euphemism for a wealthy man?"

Cushman clarified that she is not seeking a partner based on their financial standing, but rather wants someone who appreciates her demanding career. "I don’t care how much money they make but I work a ton so from a lifestyle perspective, would have to appreciate that,” Cushman stated. She also emphasized her Christian faith, desire for children, and close family ties.

Cushman is the co-founder of ShiftOs, an AI-powered workplace management platform that was acquired by Trusted Health in August. Her professional background includes a previous role at IBM and service in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman. She explained that her singleness at 30 is due to a long-term previous relationship, and she is seeking a "forever person" with key traits: kind, intelligent, curious, athletic, and funny.

In response to a commenter questioning how she would balance a demanding career with raising children, Cushman responded, "Prioritizing family is extremely important and #1 for me. I don’t think that you need to be a stay at home mom to do so, you can still work and be very involved with kids. Its a matter of making it a point to put them first, shutting off for dinners, weekends, etc."

Her online supporters praised her character. One user described her as "one of the kindest and most driven people," while another commented, "She’s gorgeous and sweet don’t be assholes."

This approach contrasts with that of Brooke Leblanc, whose partner criteria included being between 35 and 42, "healthy masculine," smart, funny, lighthearted, and possessing a "provider/protector mentality." Leblanc also specified that her ideal partner should be "post economic (still hardworking)," kind, generous, thoughtful, live in the same city, have no children, be fit, sober, have no previous marriages or engagements, and work in tech.
