Taylor Swift Recounts Brad Paisley's 'Crickets Prank' at Hall of Fame Induction

Taylor Swift reminisced about a memorable "tour prank" orchestrated by country music star Brad Paisley during her acceptance speech at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame's 56th anniversary gala. Swift, who was being inducted, recalled that Paisley "filled [her] entire tour bus with live crickets, thousands of them," during a time when she opened for him on his 2007 Bonfires & Amplifiers Tour.

Swift described the prank as having gone "too far," recounting that the incident left her unable to sleep "for months." She humorously added that she "considered buying a pet lizard to eradicate the problem." The anecdote was shared as Swift accepted her induction into the prestigious hall.

At 36 years old, Swift became the youngest artist ever to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Other inductees for 2026 included Shawn Camp, Bruce Channel, Lyle Lovett, and Lee Thomas Miller. George Strait was also recognized with the Career Maker Award.

During her speech, Swift reflected on her early years as a songwriter in Nashville, noting the 20th anniversary of her debut album, "Taylor Swift." She emphasized her lifelong passion for songwriting, stating, "I started writing songs when I was a little kid and I knew from the time I wrote my first song that even if it couldn’t be my career, it would be my passion. It would be what I centered my entire life around."

Lainey Wilson performed a rendition of Swift's hit song "Love Story" prior to Swift's acceptance speech. Swift expressed her gratitude for the honor, calling the induction into the "sacred club" a significant moment in her life. She stated, "I will cherish it forever because Nashville is the place that honed and polished the thing about myself and the thing about my life that I am the most proud of and the most passionate about."

This induction follows Swift's recent honors, including being recognized with the inaugural MTV VMAs Artist Director Honors at the 2026 ceremony, where she debuted her self-directed music video for "Patient Zero." The song is from "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," the deluxe edition of her 2025 album "The Life of a Showgirl."
