Taylor Swift Makes Surprise 'SNL' Appearance to Support Dakota Johnson
Swift, who recently collaborated with Johnson on her 'Patient Zero' music video, appeared during Johnson's opening monologue as her self-proclaimed 'break-up therapist'.
Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, joining host Dakota Johnson during her opening monologue. The pop star appeared as Johnson's "literal therapist," a role that emerged from their recent collaboration on Swift's music video for "Patient Zero."
Johnson, who was hosting SNL for the third time, joked about her recent public breakups with two musicians, quipping that she was looking for a third. Swift then entered the stage, playfully dismissing Johnson's description of her as a therapist. "I’m not—I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some," Swift said. "And then you flop on my couch and overshare, and every so often I just say, 'Damn, that’s crazy.'"

Johnson also referenced Swift's new song, "Cleveland," which she recently released as an encore track from her 2025 album, "The Life of a Showgirl." The song is dedicated to Swift's boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, whose hometown is Cleveland. Swift responded to the mention of Kelce's hometown with a cheer to the audience.
Swift and Johnson have a long-standing friendship and have collaborated professionally on multiple occasions. Johnson recently appeared in Swift's music video for "Patient Zero," which premiered at the MTV Video Music Awards. During the awards show, Johnson presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Award.

Swift is no stranger to the SNL stage. She previously appeared with Kelce in 2023 to introduce Ice Spice as the musical guest. Swift also hosted the show in 2009 and has performed as a musical guest in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Her appearance on Saturday's show had been speculated by fans, particularly after a Saturday Night Live emblem was visible in the background of a pre-recorded sketch she appeared in with Mariska Hargitay at the Emmys earlier this month.
