Taylor Swift Debuts 'The Fate of Ophelia' Live at Academy Museum Gala
The pop superstar performed the hit song from her 2025 album for the first time, alongside other fan favorites, to a star-studded audience.
Taylor Swift made a memorable appearance at the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday, captivating a crowd of celebrities with the first-ever live performance of her hit song "The Fate of Ophelia." The track, a lead single and opening track from her 2025 album "The Life of a Showgirl," had spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard-Hot 100.
Swift, 36, also performed other popular songs including "Blank Space," "Love Story," and "I Knew It, I Knew You." However, the debut of "The Fate of Ophelia" quickly became a major talking point on social media, with fans expressing their excitement online. Clips of the performance, which featured backup singers and saxophone players, went viral.
"TAYLOR SINGING THE FATE OF OPHELIA HIGH NOTE FOR THE FIRST TIME OMG," one user wrote on Reddit, with another adding, "FINALLY OPHELIA OH MY GOD."
Swift wore a floor-length, midnight-blue gown with sheer details and a retro Hollywood hairstyle for her performance. She had previously walked the gala's red carpet in a pale blue creation by Dior.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures had announced on October 8 that Swift would be a performer at its sixth annual gala. Academy Museum Director and President Amy Homma praised Swift as "an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world."
The star-studded event was attended by numerous celebrities, including Cara Delevingne, Jessica Alba, Sabrina Carpenter, Demi Moore, Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron, and John Legend with Chrissy Teigen.
Swift's performance comes after a significant year for the artist. In September, she surpassed Beyoncé as the most-awarded artist in MTV Video Music Awards history, receiving the inaugural MTV Artist Director Honors. Earlier in October, Swift made a surprise appearance on "Saturday Night Live" during her friend Dakota Johnson's opening monologue, engaging in a humorous exchange about friendship and occasional oversharing.
Swift's personal life also garnered attention this year, notably her wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce at New York City's Madison Square Garden on July 3.
