Taylor Swift Debuts "The Fate of Ophelia" at Academy Museum Gala
Pop superstar surprises attendees with first-ever live performance of 2025 hit.
Taylor Swift treated a star-studded audience at the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday night to the live debut of her 2025 hit song "The Fate of Ophelia." The performance marked the first time the singer has performed the track live, which was the lead single and opening track on her album "The Life of a Showgirl."
Swift, who recently helped her husband Travis Kelce celebrate his 37th birthday, also performed other well-known songs including "Blank Space," "Love Story," and "I Knew It, I Knew You." However, the performance of "The Fate of Ophelia," a song that spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, quickly gained traction on social media.
Fans expressed surprise and excitement over the long-awaited live rendition of the song. Social media platforms were abuzz with clips and reactions from attendees. One user on Reddit noted, "TAYLOR SINGING THE FATE OF OPHELIA HIGH NOTE FOR THE FIRST TIME OMG," with another adding, "FINALLY OPHELIA OH MY GOD."
Swift appeared on stage in a midnight-blue, floor-length gown with sheer details, complemented by a retro Hollywood hairstyle. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures had announced Swift's performance on October 8. Amy Homma, Director and President of the Academy Museum, called Swift "an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world."
The gala's attendees included notable figures such as Cara Delevingne, Jessica Alba, Sabrina Carpenter, Rose, Demi Moore, Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron, Joey King, Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen.
Swift walked the red carpet in a pale blue Dior creation. This performance follows a significant period for the artist, including her surpassing Beyonce as the most-award artist in MTV Video Music Awards history in September after winning the inaugural MTV Artist Director Honors. Earlier in the month, Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live during her friend Dakota Johnson's opening monologue.
