Taylor Swift Announces "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore" with Four New Tracks
The pop superstar also released a new single, "Patient Zero," and kept fans guessing with cryptic social media updates.
Taylor Swift has announced the release of "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," an extended edition of her latest album featuring four new songs. The deluxe version is set to drop on Friday, following the release of her new single, "Patient Zero," on Tuesday. Swift shared the news via Instagram, accompanied by a new album cover and a message expressing gratitude to her fans for the album's historical first-week performance.
Fans had been speculating about a new release after Swift's website launched a mysterious two-hour countdown on Tuesday. Her social media bios were also updated to read, "And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u," with zeros replacing the letter 'o,' adding to the intrigue. The release of "Patient Zero" coincided with the end of the countdown, with the single's title appearing to reference a 2024 Los Angeles Times article that described Swift as "patient zero" for emotional contagion.
The single's cover art, featuring Swift in dark, dramatic attire and a gothic-themed photoshoot, led some fans to speculate about a potential "death of a showgirl" theme, possibly a companion to her current album. "Patient Zero" is available in three versions, including acoustic and piano renditions.
Swift's "The Life of a Showgirl" was released in October last year. Her most recent single prior to "Patient Zero" was "I Knew It, I Knew You" from the Toy Story 5 soundtrack in June. The singer also recently tied the knot with NFL star Travis Kelce on July 4 at Madison Square Garden. While details of the wedding, including Christian Dior haute couture attire, Cartier jewelry, and Christian Louboutin shoes, were shared by her publicist, photos from the event have yet to be released.
