Once known for a party-boy image, Travis Kelce's life has reportedly shifted since his relationship with Taylor Swift began.
Footage from a June live recording of Kelce's podcast, "New Heights," showed Swift playfully feeding him, a moment that some observers interpreted as symbolic of how the pop superstar has influenced the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
"Prior to Taylor, he definitely wanted to have a taste of Hollywood and the limelight," an insider told the Daily Mail. "He liked going to [events] and working on his personal brand during the off season." The source added that Kelce is now "ready to leave that raucous reputation... in the rearview."
Kelce himself has spoken about a desire to move away from his public persona. In a GQ magazine interview published before his August 2025 proposal to Swift, he stated he was "starting to phase out of wanting to be known as the party guy." He also acknowledged Swift's influence, telling the Wall Street Journal, "I've never been a man of words. Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f***ing mind-blowing. I'm learning every day."
Kelce's past has been marked by several incidents that contributed to his "party boy" reputation. During his sophomore season at the University of Cincinnati in 2010, he was suspended after failing a drug test. He later admitted to having "partied a little too much" before a bowl game. This led to him transitioning to tight end from quarterback and a personal resolution to "tighten the f**k up."
Despite this, his public antics continued to shape his image. He was seen partying in nightclubs, drinking beer courtside at NBA playoff games, and once used a Lombardi trophy as a makeshift luge at his music festival, Kelce Jam. In May, he was asked about the number of beer kegs he anticipated at his wedding, replying, "Man, I can't even count that high."
His behavior has also drawn criticism during significant events. At the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory parade in February 2024, Kelce appeared visibly intoxicated on a float, struggling to speak clearly. The day's celebrations were later overshadowed by a mass shooting at the event, where 22 people were injured and one woman died. Kelce's subsequent appearance at a bar with an open beer, taking selfies with police officers, drew backlash for its optics.
Kelce's past social media activity has also resurfaced. Screenshots from the early 2010s, many of which have since been deleted, showed remarks deemed crude, misogynistic, and fat-shaming. One tweet read: "As a man, You have something wrong with you if your going for girls that weigh more then you!!" Another stated: "haha when fat people fall, its like slow motion entertainment, cuz they never JUST fall, they always tumble n gradually hit the deck #comedy."
His unfiltered past was also evident in a 2016 appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," where he discussed dating "dealbreakers." He stated that a woman not enjoying oral sex was a "dealbreaker to me" and that he preferred to sleep with a woman before the third date.
Before his relationship with Swift, Kelce starred in the reality dating show "Catching Kelce" in 2016, which aired for one season. Insiders also suggested that before becoming exclusive with Swift, Kelce was seeing other people and "wasn't looking for anything serious" initially. The gesture of offering Swift a friendship bracelet with his number was described by some sources as more of a "joke."
Despite these past behaviors and the contrast with Swift's public image, an insider insisted that Kelce "hasn't changed" significantly. The source described him as "a nice guy and a pleasure for people to work for," possessing a "big personality" and being "the life of the party, fun, kind, loving, caring."
Kelce has framed his current activities with Swift, such as attending events like the 2024 US Open, not as partying but as "reveling in moments with his wife-to-be." He told GQ, "I'm just enjoying the fun of being at this really cool event that I always wanted to go to with the person that I love."
