Taylor Swift and Dakota Johnson Celebrate "Patient Zero" Premiere at MTV VMAs

Taylor Swift and Dakota Johnson shared a moment of celebration at the MTV VMAs 2026, watching the debut of Swift's music video for "Patient Zero." Swift was seen embracing Johnson while holding one of her newly won moon person trophies.
Johnson, who stars in the video alongside Colin Farrell, had just presented Swift with the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors award. Swift accepted the award, thanking her fans, before announcing the premiere of the "Patient Zero" video, which was released days prior.
A Night of Accolades
Swift's achievements at the 2026 VMAs extended beyond the "Patient Zero" premiere. She also won the Video of the Year award and became the most-awarded solo artist in MTV VMA history. This honor surpassed her previous tie with Beyoncé, bringing her total wins to 31.
The Artist Director award, according to a press release, recognizes artists whose work behind the camera has "expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling."
Swift was nominated in multiple categories for the evening, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Visual Effects.
"Patient Zero" and Musical Inspirations
The music video for "Patient Zero" is one of four new songs featured on Swift's latest release, "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," which became available on Friday.
While many fans have interpreted "Patient Zero" as a diss track aimed at ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, Swift clarified its inspiration to Capital FM. She explained that the song was born from a conversation with friends where one recounted an ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend reaching out for guidance.
Another track, "Cleveland!," is described as an homage to Swift's husband, Travis Kelce, and includes a reference to their July wedding. The lyrics also address criticism of their relationship, with Swift delivering the line, "The taste of me is acquired, but it’s his favorite dish."
Swift and Kelce have been a couple since the summer of 2023. Kelce was not present at Swift's VMA appearances in 2023 and 2024. However, in a 2024 acceptance speech, Swift thanked Kelce, stating, "Everything this man touches turns into happiness and fun and magic."
