Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on "Yellowstone" and its related series, is set to direct two new films, marking his return to feature filmmaking after a five-year hiatus. These projects, "Visalia" and "Capture the Flag," are based on concepts developed by producer Andrew Lauren.
"Visalia" is described as a political drama that will follow a young Cuban woman who emigrates to the United States. Her pursuit of freedom is disrupted when a significant political shift in Cuba pulls her back to her homeland, where she must confront the consequences of her escape and the transformation of her country.
"Capture the Flag" ventures into the realm of space exploration. The film will center on a NASA engineer engaged in a high-stakes race to develop the first reusable spacecraft capable of traveling to the moon and back. The engineer faces tests of his limits, loyalties, and morals when a tech mogul presents an opportunity to make history at a significant cost.
Lauren expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that these projects have been in development for years and that advancements in science and shifts in the political landscape have accelerated their path to realization. He noted his early work with Sheridan on these ideas, predating Sheridan's rise as a prominent filmmaker.
Sheridan recently signed a substantial deal with NBCUniversal, which will see him transition from his current commitments with Paramount after 2028. Paramount has been the home for many of Sheridan's successful television ventures, including "Yellowstone," "1883," "1923," "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," "Landman," "Lioness," and "The Madison."
His previous film credits include writing "Sicario" and the Academy Award-nominated "Hell or High Water." His last film releases as a writer were in 2021 with "Those Who Wish Me Dead" and a co-writing credit on "Without Remorse."
Details regarding release dates for "Visalia" and "Capture the Flag" have not yet been announced.
