Taylor Dayne Celebrates Four Years Cancer-Free, Announces Las Vegas Residency
The '80s pop icon opens up about her colon cancer journey and the importance of early screenings as she prepares for her debut in Las Vegas.
Eighties pop superstar Taylor Dayne has announced she is four years cancer-free after a private battle with stage 2 colon cancer. The Grammy-nominated artist shared her health update as she gears up for her first-ever Las Vegas residency at Harrah's Las Vegas.
Dayne, known for her 1987 hit "Tell It to My Heart," revealed in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer. She told Fox News Digital that she had been diligent with routine colonoscopies, which led to the discovery of a polyp. "It was through a routine checkup that they found a very aggressive polyp," Dayne, 64, stated. "This is how quickly these things can escalate and really take a turn."
She emphasized that she experienced no symptoms prior to her diagnosis. "I was already on top of my colonoscopies when I was told I had a lot of polyps," she said. "My mindset was, 'What do I do right now?' I was very much in action mode."
Dayne stressed the importance of regular screenings, particularly for women, and advocated for earlier screening ages. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force now recommends that adults at average risk begin colorectal cancer screening at age 45, a decrease from the previous recommendation of 50. Those at increased risk may need to start even earlier.
"I thought it was a male-dominated disease, like prostate cancer," Dayne recalled. "I was like, 'Colon?' It wasn't really resonating with me... You have to be your own champion, your own voice in getting the information you need, the plan you need."
Her health journey has also influenced her perspective on parenting and her career. "Your kids don't think of you as having a career... All they want is for their needs to be met. You're just mom to them," she said. "I became a very different touring artist then. And touring was the largest component of my career. But I was a single parent. I raised them. I was then the mother bird who needed to always come back to her nest."
Dayne follows a rigorous health regimen to maintain her well-being. "I'm very religious with my morning ritual... I do my peptides. I do my collagen. I do my bone broth. I do copper for my skin. I want to be optimal. That takes stretching, Pilates, yoga, daily exercise. You have to take care of yourself spiritually, emotionally, mentally."
Her upcoming Las Vegas residency, titled "Tell It to My Heart," begins November 24 and runs through January 2. Dayne views this as a career milestone, reflecting on her nearly four-decade career. "This is the cherry on top and recognizing that after three decades in this business, my music is still the soundtrack of so many people's lives," she said. "I am honored. My health, my wellness, my family, I am grateful for it all."
