Taye Diggs Embraces New Ventures Amidst Personal Search for Love
The actor discusses his role in 'Forever, This Ring,' his return to therapy, and his foray into mobile-first streaming.
Taye Diggs, 55, is currently navigating both his professional and personal life with a renewed sense of purpose. The actor, known for his roles in "The Best Man" and "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," is starring in the new film "Forever, This Ring," where he plays Maverick, a wealthy magazine CEO who swears off marriage until he meets the seemingly perfect woman, Faith, portrayed by Erica Mena.
A Search for Love and Self-Order
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Diggs shared that he is actively seeking love, a personal journey that has led him back to therapy. "I gotta get my myself in order first," Diggs stated, reflecting on his current efforts to unpack and process aspects of his life. This pursuit of personal order comes years after his decade-long marriage to Broadway star Idina Menzel ended in 2013. The couple shares a 17-year-old son, Walker. More recently, Diggs was in a relationship with TV presenter Apryl Jones, which concluded after a year.
Diggs' character in "Forever, This Ring", Maverick, provides a stark contrast to his current personal aspirations. Maverick's initial commitment to remaining single is challenged when he falls for Faith, though unknown to him, she harbors a darker side. La'Myia Good, 47, also stars in the film as Kiana, Maverick's assistant who has feelings for him.
Exploring New Artistic Territory
Filming "Forever, This Ring" was described by Diggs as a "wild" and "taxing" experience, akin to a "training camp" due to director Chris Stokes' rapid and emotional filmmaking style. "Whenever Chris Stokes calls, I know it's going to be exciting. I know it's going to be out there. I know it's going to be pushing boundaries, you know, making choices on the spot," Diggs said. Good echoed this sentiment, noting that the intense environment resulted in "beautiful, raw footage."
Beyond his acting career, Diggs is venturing into the burgeoning world of vertical drama with the launch of Microhouse Films. This new venture focuses on mobile-first streaming of short-form serialized stories, with episodes typically lasting two minutes and filmed vertically for optimal phone viewing. Diggs expressed enthusiasm for stepping outside his comfort zone and being part of something new.
Good, who also stars in "Forever, This Ring," sees a significant future for this innovative format. "They're definitely not going away," she remarked. "I think it's more about innovation and you know, obviously in this entertainment field, things come and go, and you have to maximize off the moment. And not only that, I think the biggest thing is being a trailblazer, figuring out how you can make that space authentic to you and your craft."
Good also spoke about navigating Hollywood alongside her sister, Meagan Good. She described their shared journey as a "gift," providing mutual support in an often challenging industry. Both sisters credit their upbringing for maintaining a grounded perspective, emphasizing that their profession does not define their core identity.
When asked about his youthful appearance, Diggs humorously attributed it to his heritage, stating, "No secrets. I'm Black. You know, you heard the term. Black don't crack!" He added that he is beginning to take better care of himself.
"Forever, This Ring" is now available on the streaming platform Turnstr+.
