Shermaine Bond, a 38-year-old taxi driver from Sheffield, has successfully lost five stone after struggling with her weight for years and trying numerous diets without lasting results. Bond, who has worked in the taxi industry for over two decades, began taking the weight-loss medication Mounjaro in October 2024, viewing it as a tool to help her achieve her goals.

At her heaviest, Bond weighed 14 stone 6 pounds. Since starting Mounjaro, she has shed five stone and now weighs 9 stone 1 pound. She reports maintaining this weight loss for approximately six months. Beyond the physical transformation, Bond states the most significant change has been escaping the persistent thoughts about food that previously dominated her life.

Bond attributes her weight gain to a combination of genetics, long shifts, irregular eating habits, and the challenges of grabbing meals on the go. "My job as a taxi driver didn't always help with long hours of sitting, irregular meal times and grabbing food on the go," she said. "When working long shifts or as a taxi driver, you never know where you will be at any time. It's not often you get close to home, so convenience always wins."

She described a cycle of intending to make healthier choices but struggling to implement them. A pivotal moment came when she realized she had reached a size 18 while shopping for shorts, prompting a desire for change. Bond stated that she was not seeking an easy fix but rather support, and decided to try Mounjaro after learning about its results.

Bond noted initial side effects, including feeling "super thirsty" and "bone chillingly cold." Her relationship with food has changed, and she describes the previous "food noise" as having quietened. She now focuses on being more mindful of her choices and incorporates opportunities for activity around her work, such as using workout equipment at home or going for walks.

Her approach to food has also shifted. Instead of restrictive diets, she now emphasizes balance, protein, and fiber, and attends the gym two to three times a week. She enjoys all foods in moderation and has become more aware of emotional or distracted eating patterns. While she acknowledges spending more money on new clothes that fit her current style, she views this as a positive shift.

Bond's renewed self-confidence has also positively impacted her personal life. She is set to marry next year and feels excitement about her upcoming wedding. She also noted that her improved well-being has had a positive effect on her relationship, and she no longer avoids social gatherings due to discomfort.

She emphasizes that the medication was a support tool that enabled her to gain control, alongside making real changes in her food choices, routine, and mindset. She stressed that the journey still requires effort, learning, and establishing new routines to maintain healthy habits.
