Tatum O'Neal Seen Publicly Using Cane Amid Recovery From Stroke

Tatum O'Neal, 62, was recently photographed in Los Angeles using a cane during a rare public outing. The Oscar-winning actress appeared to be in good spirits as she was accompanied by individuals identified as family members.

O'Neal, known for her role in "Paper Moon," wore a black midi dress and a navy blue suit jacket for the occasion. The sighting comes just days after she shared a selfie on Instagram with a caption expressing hope.

This public appearance occurs as O'Neal continues her recovery from a stroke. In 2023, she disclosed that a 2020 overdose involving pain medication, opiates, and morphine led to a six-week coma and a near-fatal stroke. She described the incident as having "almost died" and admitted to a lifelong struggle with addiction.

Her son, Kevin McEnroe, recounted to People magazine that he and his siblings had feared for their mother's life during her critical condition, which also included cardiac arrest and seizures. O'Neal was diagnosed with aphasia following the stroke and subsequently underwent rehabilitation to regain strength, memory, and the ability to read and write.

O'Neal had been prescribed pain medication for rheumatoid arthritis and pain in her back and neck. She was found by a friend in her Los Angeles home after the overdose and transported to a hospital. Her son has described her ongoing efforts to recover and maintain sobriety as a "miracle."
