Pop singer Tate McRae and Olympic gold medalist Jack Hughes have reportedly ended their relationship, according to reports from Friday. Page Six cited sources close to Hughes, 25, who claim the NHL star was the one to initiate the split, citing "red flags" in the Canadian singer.

However, sources close to McRae, 23, have countered that she was the one who ended the relationship. The couple were first seen together in November and reportedly began exclusively dating in March.

The controversy surrounding the split emerged when McRae was questioned about speculation that she is a supporter of MAGA. This speculation stemmed from an incident involving Hughes and his U.S. Olympic hockey teammates, who were filmed laughing at a joke made by Donald Trump about the women's hockey team.

During the team's visit to Washington D.C. after their Olympic victory in Italy, Trump made a comment about bringing the women's team, adding that he would likely be impeached if he didn't. While several men's players apologized for the interaction and emphasized their close ties to the women's team, Hughes stated that the men's and women's players are "tight."

McRae addressed the political speculation in a recent interview with Variety. "I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour," she said. "I think it's pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I'm putting my energy towards."

McRae had previously been seen supporting Hughes at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, where he plays for the New Jersey Devils. The conflicting reports and the timing of the rumored breakup raise questions about the extent to which the political controversy influenced their relationship.
