Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are facing dozens of historic rape and sex trafficking charges in the United Kingdom, are reportedly attempting to leverage their perceived connections to the Trump family, particularly to President Trump's son, Barron, to aid their defense. However, individuals familiar with the former president's circle have dismissed these efforts as misguided.
US Marshals arrested the Tate brothers in Miami over the weekend following the Crown Prosecution Service's announcement of new allegations. The brothers, who deny all charges, now face a total of 59 counts involving seven alleged victims. The accusations include rape, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking, with alleged incidents occurring between July 2010 and August 2017. Unsealed court filings detail claims of victims being subjected to abuse, including chokeholds and physical assault.
Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven additional rape charges and counts related to sex trafficking and indecent images of a child. Tristan Tate, 37, is charged with two new rape counts and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. Court documents also allege he used a belt on a former partner, causing injuries.
Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, has suggested that President Trump views the Tates as victims of political persecution. McBride also stated that the brothers had met with members of Congress in Washington D.C. shortly before their arrest, implying a political motive behind the charges. The Tates, who hold dual British and American nationality, are vocal supporters of Donald Trump and have previously been pictured with Republican Congressman Wesley Hunt.
Sources close to the Trump administration, however, have characterized the Tates' belief in presidential intervention as "delusional." One insider told the Daily Mail that the Epstein case made any White House intervention on behalf of alleged sex traffickers "even more objectionable." This source indicated that the Trump Justice Department would likely comply with extradition requests, rather than interfere.
The Tates' alleged closeness to Barron Trump was highlighted by their business partner, Justin Waller, who describes himself as their "third brother." Waller reportedly visited Mar-a-Lago in the spring of 2024 and spent time with Barron, offering advice and connecting him with the tailor who made suits for Donald Trump's second inauguration. Waller also stated that Barron spoke directly with Andrew Tate via Zoom during the fitting.
Andrew Tate claimed to have a close relationship with the Trump family, stating in a conversation with a British filmmaker that he was "very close with the Trump family." He and Donald Trump Jr. also appeared on a livestream to promote a MAGA meme coin, with Trump Jr. suggesting that critics wanted to "silence" Andrew Tate.
Despite these connections, an insider suggested that the Tate brothers have overestimated their influence within Trump's circle. "I've heard that they had some relationship with Don Jr but I think it's extremely peripheral," the source said. "Barron may like them. He may like their online persona, their swagger and all of that. But I just don't see him getting involved." The source added that many in the "Trump world" who were initially favorable have since turned against the Tates due to the surfacing accusations, leaving them with "nowhere."
The brothers were initially arrested in Romania in December 2022 on suspicion of running a criminal enterprise for sexual exploitation. After their travel ban was lifted in February 2025, they relocated to Florida. Their extradition to the UK is pending, with proceedings in Romania also ongoing. The Tates maintain their innocence on all charges worldwide.
