Taser Pointed at Paige Bueckers During Teammate's Arrest in Miami

Police bodycam footage released by the California Post reveals that WNBA star Paige Bueckers had a Taser pointed at her face during the chaotic arrest of her Dallas Wings teammate, Arike Ogunbowale, outside the Miami nightclub E11EVEN in March. The incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. on March 5.

Bueckers, Ogunbowale, and several other WNBA players were at the club celebrating Ogunbowale's championship victory in the Unrivaled women's basketball league. According to a police incident report, an altercation inside the venue led to Ogunbowale and her friends being escorted out. The report states that as club security was ushering them out, Ogunbowale allegedly punched a security staffer.

When officers arrived to detain Ogunbowale after the alleged victim identified her, Bueckers and other players, including Aces guard Jackie Young and Sky forward DiJonai Carrington, gathered around, attempting to de-escalate the situation. Bodycam video shows Bueckers putting her arm around Ogunbowale and repeatedly telling the officer, "We got her."

As the crowd grew, the officer drew his Taser and ordered the group to step back. The Taser was then pointed in the direction of Bueckers' face. After a tense exchange, Ogunbowale was ultimately detained and placed in a police car. Another player, Maria Clifton, was heard protesting the use of handcuffs.

Authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the nightclub, which they stated corroborated the alleged victim's account. Ogunbowale was taken to a local jail and charged with misdemeanor battery. However, court records indicate the charge was dismissed in May. Ogunbowale's attorney, Mitch Schuster, stated at the time that they were pleased with the dismissal and that Ogunbowale is a person of "outstanding character."

Ogunbowale was drafted by the Dallas Wings in 2019, and Bueckers joined the team in 2025 after being selected as the No. 1 overall pick. They have been teammates since.
