Taser Incident Involving WNBA Player Paige Bueckers Emerges in Bodycam Footage
Footage shows officer aiming Taser at Bueckers during teammate Arike Ogunbowale's arrest outside a Miami nightclub.
Bodycam footage released from March 5 shows a tense confrontation outside a Miami nightclub where a police officer aimed a Taser at WNBA star Paige Bueckers. The incident occurred during the arrest of her Dallas Wings teammate, Arike Ogunbowale, who was charged with misdemeanor battery.
According to reports, Ogunbowale was arrested after allegedly punching a security guard outside the E11EVEN nightclub. The guard claimed Ogunbowale punched him in the face after he attempted to escort her away from the venue. The footage shows officers attempting to handcuff Ogunbowale, with Bueckers and other members of their group gathering around the officers.
As the crowd grew, the officer involved drew his Taser and instructed the group to create space. Bueckers, with her arm around Ogunbowale, repeatedly told the officer, "We got her." The officer then aimed the Taser at Bueckers and demanded she release Ogunbowale. Ogunbowale was subsequently placed in handcuffs and taken to a nearby jail.
Sources within the police department stated that CCTV footage of the incident corroborated the alleged victim's account. However, court records indicate that the charge against Ogunbowale was dismissed in May. Ogunbowale's attorney, Mitch Schuster, expressed satisfaction with the dismissal, stating that the State Attorney's Office exercised its discretion and that Ogunbowale is a person of "outstanding character."
Ogunbowale, one of the WNBA's higher-paid players, has been a four-time All-Star since entering the league in 2020. Bueckers, the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, joined the Wings as Ogunbowale's teammate.
