Target Offers $30 Thanksgiving Dinner Deal Amid Retailer Price Competition

Target is entering the competitive Thanksgiving meal market with a $30 dinner deal designed to serve six people. The offering aims to provide a budget-friendly option for holiday shoppers, costing approximately $5 per person.

The deal includes nine grocery items: a Butterball turkey (up to 10 pounds), a 3-pound bag of russet potatoes, cranberry sauce, two cans of green beans, cream of mushroom soup, fried onions, turkey stuffing mix, turkey gravy, and two take-and-bake baguettes. These ingredients are intended to allow shoppers to prepare traditional Thanksgiving dishes, including green bean casserole.

While the $30 price point is an increase from last year's offering, Target states that this year's package serves six people, compared to four in the previous year. The retailer is also promoting an expanded selection of $5 sides, pies, appetizers, and wine.

The Thanksgiving meal deal is available from November 8 through November 29, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. A separate promotion for a Good & Gather frozen turkey at 79 cents per pound will also be available in November.

Online reactions to Target's deal have been varied. Some consumers have questioned the quantity of certain items, such as the 10-pound turkey for six people, while others have noted the overall value, especially considering the current high grocery prices. Common points of discussion included the absence of dessert in the provided ingredients and whether the item quantities were sufficient for a family meal.

Target's announcement comes as other major retailers also roll out their Thanksgiving meal promotions. Aldi offers a meal for under $39 that serves 10, and Sam's Club has a 16-person feast for about $160. Costco's online-exclusive bundle is priced at $199.99 for eight people and includes 12 items, such as a turkey breast, sides, and desserts. Walmart advertises a $35 meal basket intended to serve 10 people.

These offers vary in price, serving size claims, and the types of food included, with some emphasizing fully prepared items while others focus on ingredients for home cooking.
