Tarek El Moussa Defends Buying Daughter $150,000 BMW for 16th Birthday
HGTV alum Tarek El Moussa stated his daughter earned the luxury vehicle through academic and athletic achievements.
HGTV personality Tarek El Moussa has defended his decision to purchase a $150,000 BMW for his 16-year-old daughter, Taylor.
El Moussa, known for co-hosting the network's "Flip or Flop" with his ex-wife Christina Haack, discussed the purchase on the "Money Rehab" podcast. When questioned about the expensive gift, El Moussa confirmed the purchase and explained his reasoning.
"She got a 4.2 GPA. She was MVP of her freshman soccer team. She's an absolutely fantastic kid," El Moussa stated. "She didn't just get it. She actually earned it, and if you ask me, she deserved it because she worked really, really hard."
He added that the gift was a surprise and that the vehicle was chosen with safety in mind. "That thing is built like a tank. She's in a safe car and she loves it," he said.
During the podcast, El Moussa also recounted buying his current wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, a Ferrari on their second date. "On our second date, I showed up with a Ferrari and I bought it for her because on the first date I asked her about her dream car," he explained. "She said it was a white Ferrari. So then I bought her a white Ferrari... Third date she moved in."
In August, Tarek and Christina reunited to surprise their daughter Taylor with the BMW. Heather Rae El Moussa shared a post on Instagram at the time, writing, "What's more of a surprise... the car for Taylor or the fact that the three of us actually pulled this off? The car is so well deserved, we love you so much Tay."
El Moussa and Haack starred in "Flip or Flop" for 10 seasons, with the final episode airing in March 2022. Their respective home renovation series, "The Flipping El Moussas" and "Christina On The Coast," were later canceled as part of a network overhaul.
