A Qatari-flagged tanker carrying liquefied natural gas was reportedly struck by a missile on Saturday while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred as U.S. embassies in the region began advising Americans to leave the Middle East.

The vessel, identified as the Gaslog Shanghai LNG ship, sustained damage to its engine room and became inoperable off the Omani coast, according to Bloomberg, citing security intelligence sources. The UK Maritime Trade Operations also confirmed an alert regarding a vessel being struck in the same general location overnight Saturday, though the ship's identity was not provided by the agency.

Iran has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The tanker had reportedly picked up an LNG shipment around July 27 and last transmitted a signal on Friday near the western entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

The reported attack follows President Trump's directive for additional strikes on Iran, which were anticipated to commence over the weekend.
