Six years after first appearing on the TLC reality series '1000-lb Sisters,' Tammy Slaton has experienced a life filled with dramatic transformations and profound challenges as she approaches her 40th birthday. Her journey has included a significant weight loss of over 500 pounds, a life-threatening carbon monoxide poisoning incident, the loss of her husband, and finding new love with a fiancée.

Slaton, who first appeared on the show weighing 605 pounds, has spoken about sharing her story to help others feel less alone in their struggles. "By us putting our stories out there, we’re helping others," she has stated. "We’re helping others to see that they can lose weight too. They’re not alone."

Early Struggles and Weight Gain

Slaton's weight issues began in childhood, growing up in Kentucky in a family that struggled with poverty. She has described a lack of affection during her upbringing, with food becoming a primary source of comfort after her grandmother's death. By age 20, Slaton weighed approximately 500 pounds. The premise of '1000-lb Sisters' followed Tammy and her sister Amy as they aimed to qualify for bariatric surgery. While Amy achieved substantial weight loss, Tammy's weight increased to 665 pounds by the end of season two, leading her to cope with depression through excessive drinking and partying.

A Near-Fatal Health Crisis

Tammy Slaton's life took a critical turn in November 2021 when she was hospitalized and placed on life support due to carbon monoxide poisoning. She was diagnosed with obesity hypoventilation syndrome, a condition that severely impacts breathing. At that point, her weight had reached 717 pounds. The incident served as a catalyst for Slaton to re-enter rehab for her food addiction. She spent three weeks on life support before narrowly surviving.

Following the health scare, Slaton began to show significant improvement. In the season three finale, her brother Chris reported that she had lost 115 pounds in rehab. A friend told The Sun in early 2022 that Slaton had quit smoking and drinking and was increasing her physical activity. By March 2022, Slaton shared a selfie from rehab, showing a noticeable difference, and by July 2022, she had lost enough weight to undergo bariatric surgery, weighing 534 pounds at the time, a total loss of 180 pounds since entering rehab.

Marriage and Loss

While in rehab, Slaton met Caleb Willingham, a fellow patient. The couple became engaged in October 2022 and married two months later. Willingham, who also appeared on the show, shared Slaton's struggles with chronic obesity. However, reports surfaced the following year of their impending divorce, with sources citing Willingham's failure to adhere to his diet in rehab. In July 2023, Willingham passed away at the age of 40 from unknown causes, just a year after their wedding. Slaton paid tribute to him on Instagram, calling him her "sweet angel."

Transformation and New Engagement

After her significant weight loss, Slaton struggled with excess skin. In 2025, she underwent an eight-hour skin removal surgery. Doctors removed over 15 pounds of excess skin from her chin, arms, and lower stomach. Slaton described the process as overwhelming and a realization of her hard work. "It feels so weird not having the ball sack hanging off my face and my bat wings are gone too," she stated on the show.

In 2024, three years after Caleb Willingham's death, Slaton announced a new relationship with Andrea Dalton, whom she met on a dating app. Slaton, who previously came out as pansexual, shared that she had not yet informed her family about her relationship with a woman. Two months later, the couple announced their engagement and began planning their wedding, even entertaining ideas for a Kentucky Wildcats basketball-themed celebration.

Slaton's public journey has been marked by extreme highs and lows, from near-death experiences and profound personal loss to remarkable physical transformation and finding new love.
