A wildfire, dubbed the Talbot Fire, has consumed 75 acres in the Tahoe National Forest, prompting an evacuation warning for nearby residents.
The blaze, which ignited Tuesday afternoon in Placer County, is under investigation by CAL FIRE. Crews from the Tahoe National Forest's US Forest Service are actively battling the flames.
An evacuation warning is in effect for Talbot Fire Zone 1, advising residents who may need additional time to evacuate, such as those with pets or livestock, to leave the area. Residents along French Meadows Road have been instructed to prepare for immediate departure if conditions worsen.
The fire, initially reported at 16 acres on Tuesday, grew to approximately 150 acres by that evening before more accurate mapping on Thursday morning revised the size to 75 acres. The affected area includes Tahoe Cedars, a historic residential neighborhood on the west shore of Lake Tahoe known for its collection of cabins and mountain homes. This community features a mix of upscale properties and mid-century Tahoe cabins, with some modern lakefront homes in nearby exclusive areas fetching prices over $4 million.
Night-flying aircraft were deployed Tuesday night to assist ground crews in containing the fire. As of Wednesday night, the fire was not posing a threat to the town of Truckee, though smoke was anticipated to affect the surrounding region. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, and evacuation warnings remain in place.
